It makes no sense, but then it does.

by canis-familiaris @ 20.12.07 - 04:34:40 pm

:crazy:All of this.

Modern life, consumerism all of it. Why? I get lost. Confused. I hate it. But I love it. Central heating, air conditioning, take-aways that deliver, gadgets, guitars, music.

But working for a living? Money? Voting? celebrity! Who's idea was all that. But I love money and the stuff it can get you. But it's just stuff. Which makes no sense.

It was simpler when you got born and your family taught you how to live, how to build a home, care for livestock, hunt, grow crops and make bread and beer and preserve food. But I am not in any way moving to some backwards commune and living off the land because I love the stereo and the video games and electricity and internet and stuff.

Arrrgh!

I want it all to fuck off and burn and I want it all to stay.

And relationships, and people and stuff. People are vile on the whole, but fantastic in isolation. Taken one by one, good and bad. We generally deserve to be blasted off the face of the planet, but I love many individuals and would die for them if it came to it.

And do NOT mention Chritmas!

God I feel nuts!

I would do it, right now, take off and live that way. What is the point in working your ass off all ,month for it to be taken off you by the politicians one way or another.

I dont ask much from 'Him upstairs' which is a damn good job cos he doesn't give me anything anyway.

Right now I am so tired of the shit this life keeps throwing at me.

You really do deserve to be treated better by life. Good people get crap, too many crap people get good.

Have a hug.

an interesting post :)

you're right...living in a self contained way, where you didn't have to work, except to farm for food and trade for things you cant make/grow sounds great. Most of us in the UK are a long way from that reality and are forever chasing play stations and ipods..and for what?

"people" are horrible - just walk down Oxford Street at the moment and you'll swear to become a recluse..I'm not a crowds person either - I much prefer individual company and peace and quiet.

I'd give up all my technology if I had to, just love, books, a guitar and a pen and paper would do me fine.

The people in oxford street right now are not a crowd, but a ravining pack of consumer monsters trying to make sure that this one stupid day a year is better than last years disaster.

The crowds on Oxford street normally dont bother me, I used to work round there and could slip through them like a buttered eel when I had to, or just go with the flow and admire the scenery. I like cities, but love walking on deserted coasts and wandering through woods. Sit me by a fast flowing stream in forest and I will be happy to sit there for ages..Its all good for me.

I agree that living a self contained way is a fantastic idea that we should never have given up, BUT I too chase the playstations and the guitar gadgets (God you should see the number of boxes I have to make your guitar growl, howl, sploing and go Wheeeee!)

So I am stuck. Its all crap and we are all fucking stupid and vile, but I like alot of it and I like a lot of individuals.

This is just one of the many branches of mad bollocks in my head at this time of year.

I think the hunter gatherer lifestyle and subsistence farming probably have their downsides too Mr CF.

I am sure they do, everything does. But in the long run it may have been better. In a global disaster most people on the planet would die because they would have no idea how to get food from nature or hunt game, find fresh water or make a shelter. If the supermarket is closed they are fucked.

So if that sort of thing happens the people that survive will be the tribes in the amazon who still live that way and desert nomads.

And of course some total nutter American survivalists. Well at least till their ammo runs out.

We would survive. We learnt a lot when we did all that anthropological stuff when we did the environmental archaeology with Tony wotsit not the bone man the winnowing one.

I know how you feel... I would like to live more natural - not to depend on shops and be in closer contact with other people like it was in the past. But I don´t want to give up this life with PC, shopping and so too... It is confusing...
